How I Make Time to Write: Tip 4

How I Make Time to Write: Tip 4

Today I’m sharing my final tip for making time to write.

4. Prioritize

I only work on writing projects for a certain amount of time while my daughter is awake. Then I wait until naptime or bedtime to continue working on things. I really like this because it helps me be present with my daughter when she is up. And I don’t feel conflicted about whether I should be typing or spending time with her.

Writing takes priority over other things. I decide what is most important in my life and that is what I put first. When I keep the commitment I make with myself to make time for writing, I am proud of myself.

I can do everything, just not at the same time. I have the mentality that a little work done is better than no work done. If I am able to make a little time for writing here and there it will add up.

Thanks for keeping up with my tips on making time to write!

How I Make Time to Write: Tip 2

How I Make Time to Write: Tip 2

Today I’m sharing my second tip to make time for writing. Tip 2: One Project At A Time I had so many fun ideas floating around in my head, that I often didn’t get any writing done. I would work a little on one project

How I Make Time To Write

How I Make Time To Write

These past few months have been a whirlwind. We all get swept up in the business of life sometimes.

I spend my days chasing a toddler around, being pregnant with our second child, church responsibilities, trying to stay fit, prepare healthy meals, laundry, and other activities. How do I have the time to write?

A better question might be: How do I make the time to write?

On top of limited time, I also seem to have too many ideas of things I want to write about! It’s a blessing to have so many ideas and projects I’m excited about, but it can also get overwhelming.

Since the start of the new year, I have launched this website. I have grown my Instagram following to over 2,000 followers. I have created an Instagram and blog posting schedule to help me stay on top of things in the coming months.

I have completed six new picture book manuscripts. I’ve done a lot of editing, attended workshop groups, and have entered past and new manuscripts in contests and have sent some to publishers and agents.

In regards to my poetry, I have completed and entered a chapbook to a contest. I am so excited to start sharing some of my content from that chapbook, hopefully this summer. I have also been busy working on two separate poetry collections.

I am proud of myself in all that I have been able to accomplish. I wanted to share with you all some things I’ve been doing that have allowed me to do so much in a short amount of time:

Tip One: Make Lists

I am a neurotic list maker. It is seriously one of my obsessions. I have a list of my favorite books, a list of movies to watch, a to-do list for daily tasks, a writer’s to-do list.

Make lists of things you need to do. And assign reasonable deadlines to them.

My to-do list of daily tasks is not just a giant list of everything I need to get done. That’s overwhelming. I assign each thing on my to-do list a day of the week. That way I make time for it and don’t get overwhelmed by a seemingly endless to-do list.

My writer’s to-do list also has deadlines of when I think I can complete projects, enter contests, and send off submissions.

You Almost Missed the Greatness

You Almost Missed the Greatness

You had it all planned out…

Emerging from my dark place.

Emerging from my dark place.

If you can but hold on another day…

Step into the unknown. The monsters are only in your head.

Step into the unknown. The monsters are only in your head.

Even though we are adults now, we are still afraid. We are still afraid of the dark, the unknown. Just like when we were children, most of our fears are created by our minds.

The mind is so powerful.

I am afraid. I am stepping into the unknown as I start to put my work out there for the world to see. What could grab my ankles as I step into the dark? People could hate every word, laugh, or try to tear me down. I could offend someone. I could make mistakes. I could fail. Even if all of these things happen, grabbing my ankles, I don’t have to let them hold me back. I can shake it off and keep moving. Keep moving into the unknown. Keep moving.

I don’t want my fears to keep me from experiencing the good in this journey. People could relate to what I have to say, enjoy it, and lift me up. I could lift someone else up. I could succeed. I don’t want my fears to keep me from knowing what could happen.

What you are afraid of only has power over you if you let it. Don’t be held back a moment longer. You will be amazed what happens when you stop being afraid.

Let’s step fearlessly into the unknown, together.
